When you are doing administrative things, are you interruptible?
Do you allow the email dinger to interrupt you? The phone? As independent professionals, we are responsible for doing just about everything for our businesses. And… we depend on our relationships with clients for our sustenance.
So when I am doing “stuff” in my office, I often find that I get taken on a tangent with an email or another kind of distraction. After all, I like to be responsive. And it takes me a long time to get back to my “task at hand.”
When I am at my best, I am able to last a full hour with total focus on my most important task without interruptions. It works best for me to set a timer for an hour and clear my desk first. When I can power through on a task or a project for a solid hour, I am so very much more focused, effective, efficient, and pleased with myself.
